research into camera work (Maisie Walker)

research into camerawork within Thriller film;
  • high angle shots are used to make the audience feel either vulnerable. This gives the impression that the audience are smaller than the character and have less power over them which can increase the eerie feel of the film. Carrie is one of our similar films therefore the camera shots used in this film were emulated in our film opening.

  • close up shots are used to show the vulnerability and the intense emotions of the characters at a certain time. If there is a close up of a character's eyes you will be able to see the character crying which can create emotion for the audience as well.

  • tracking and panning shots are used in thriller films to show the character running away quickly. This is effective as it creates a fast atmosphere and makes the audience feel intense and rushed. This is something that we would want to include in our film as it keeps the audience on their toes the whole time and makes you fear for the main character that is running away or being chased.
