Picture one:
This is the Lionsgate logo which is the company which Co-Produced The Blair Witch Project. This is a typical convention for many horror films or any films in general. The logos are usually at the beginning to attract audiences, for example, if some people enjoy films from Lionsgate they will continue to watch the film.
Picture two:
This is another logo for a film company which isn't as well known. This is also a promotion for the company and, as it is on a black screen, it links to the overall theme and genre of the film which is horror and mystery.
Picture three:
this is the title of the film which is on a black screen and white, small writing saying "The Blair Witch Project" this, again, links to the theme and genre of the film. The fact that the writing is small seems like it wouldn't be significant however, the black screen exaggerates the focus of the film and makes it seem more important. I want to use this text in our film because it is eerie and mysterious which is the particular vibe we wanted to give off with our film.
Picture Four:
This is text giving an overall summary of what happened as if the film was found and it is in the past tense. This is engaging because it foreshadows that something is going to happen to the students within the film. The fact that it says "a year later their footage was found" signifies that the students wee not found however the footage was which creates mystery for the audience and makes them feel on edge even before the film has started.
Picture Five:
Quite immediately, it goes straight to the footage which was found. This is introducing the characters-firstly it is the girl who is showing the camera what she is bringing with her on her trip. The girl looks rather tired and scared which also foreshadows that something bad is going to happen to her in the woods on their trip.
Picture Six:
This picture is a book which the girl is taking on her trip, this is "How To Survive In The Woods" which again foreshadows that they will no survive in the woods. Additionally, it gives of a feeling that she is scared and may be the most vulnerable within the film. The fact that she is the first person shown gives the impression that she is the main character and is the most important within the film.
The book shows that she worries about the woods and needs to be secure with knowledge before she goes into the woods. The book is also over the top of a dark screen sticking to the overall theme of the film.
Picture Seven:
This is a picture of another character with a professional camera to film with. This introduces a new character however also shows that he will be doing all of the filming suggesting that he may be the last one to die if he is the only one filming throughout.
Picture Eight:
Quite swiftly, there is an editing technique used which is black and white. This is used very randomly as none of the other shots are filmed with the black and white effect. This suggests that this girl within the film is very vulnerable as well as the first girl shown within the film. The black and white is a signature convention for a horror films as it makes it mysterious and eerie. I want to use the black and white effect in our film because I feel as if it gives off a better effect and follows the conventions of a typical horror film.
Picture Nine:
Finally, this clip of the new character which is a large man/young adult. He is told to say bye to his mother which suggests that something bad is going to happen to him within the film and he will never be able to see his mum again. This is a good technique because you almost feel bad for the character before anything happens to him because it is so blatantly foreshadowed. In terms of the look of the clip, the camera isn't the best quality and is done all through Point of View shots which may make the film difficult to see throughout.
